Federated Mountain Clubs

History

The Hagley Tramping Club was originally formed in 1974 by staff at Christchurch Hospital and until 2007 was known as the Hospital Tramping Club. The club was not restricted to Hospital Staff, but open to all members of the public. Over the decades the membership gradually drifted away from Hospital staff until, by 2006, the link was lost and we no longer had any club members who worked at the Hospital. In 2007 the club’s name changed to the Hagley Tramping Club (after our meeting point near Hagley Park) to better reflect the current membership and promote the club as being open to all.
