The reward for the climb is 360 views of the Hawdon and Waimakariri Valleys, and the Black Range. Plus of course the best lunch spot around!

  Drive to the Hawdon River shelter and begin the steep climb out of the bush before the gradient levels off. Steady climbing along the ridge to the summit (1429m).
