Barker Hut, APNP

Grade:  Moderate 

Barker Hut is perched beside a tarn below the ANP’s highest peaks and offers amazing views. Starting at the Waimakariri Bridge we take O’Malley’s track and the riverbed to Carrington Hut. 

Next day, we cross the White River on the Clough cableway and continue up a cairned trail to the head of the White river to Barker Hut  (4-5 hours).  It has some lighting but no heating. Also as it is not a DOC hut, $10 for a CMC hut ticket is required. On the third day we descend back down to Carrington Hut and walk out.
