Kirwans - Montgomery Hut Loop

Grade: Moderate

Leaving Saturday morning we will drive to the track start to Kirwans Hut (12 bunks) near Reefton. It's a steady climb up to one of the nicest huts you will ever find with stunning views of the Paparoas. Sunday takes us down past lots of old gold mining relics and stamping batteries to Montgomery Hut (6 bunks) and Monday takes us home.

Although the track says it is closed on the DOC website, there is a workaround crossing a creek avoiding the bridge which is closed. Kirwans Hut needs booking so if you are thinking of coming on this trip, it would be advisable to try and book a bed early. Hut cost is $25, pay online. Montgomery Hut hut requires a ticket, $15.
